“HEKSY” (2025)

Dramatic HEKSY emerged from the novel HEKS but constitute an entirely new theatrical organism. Developed initially through long-term improvisations by Agnieszka Szpila and actress Anna KÅ‚os for the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, the version created at the Polish Theatre in the Underground combines this material with new content shaped through Szpila’s collaboration with director Monika PÄ™cikiewicz. The result is a distinct text born from an intense, creative partnership and a redefinition of the original literary source.
The performance confronts uncompromising questions about the inseparable relationship between freedom and sexuality, challenging patriarchal narratives that limit sexual freedom to the privileged. In HEKSY, Szpila announces a break with rigid, hierarchical structures in favor of non-hierarchical, socially entangled forms, proposing ecosexuality as a new identity and artistic perspective. This radical vision has already resonated internationally, with the novel gaining growing recognition among literary critics and cultural scholars.
